Eastern Star Gas: Health, Safety and the Environment

Health, safety and the environment

Health & Safety

ESG Gas is committed to providing a safe working environment and conducting its business in a manner that reduces the risks of injury or illness to its employees, contractors, customers and other stakeholders.

We encourage best practice in health and safety management within our community and promote a culture of awareness and alertness in the workplace.

We believe that:

  • No business objective should take priority over health and safety;
  • All injuries are preventable;
  • No task is so important or urgent that it cannot be done safely; and
  • The responsibility and accountability for health and safety begins with every individual.

ESG maintains a HSEC policy that encourages the active participation of its employees. Providing the resources to review and improve the policy framework fosters a culture of ownership and empowerment that highlights the individuals role in managing their own and others’ health and safety

ESG’s exploration and development activities are regulated in NSW by the Department of Primary Industries (Minerals & Petroleum) under the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991. Industry specific safety guidelines including the NSW Schedule of Onshore Petroleum Exploration and Production Safety Requirements provide additional guidance in the conduct of the Company’s activities.

Environment

ESG Gas is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its exploration and development activities. We believe the term “environment” encompasses not only the physical environment in which we work, but includes people, their work and the things they value.

It is our intention to become a leader the expansion of the NSW’s Coal Seam Gas exploration and production industry. Excellence in environmental performance will be a fundamental component of this goal.

The Company’s activities in NSW are regulated by the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991, the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. ESG also observes a range of industry specific guidelines including the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association’s Code of Environmental Practice.

To deliver on our commitment we will:

  • Encourage new ideas or ways of minimising our environmental impacts;
  • Strive to effectively manage resources, reduce waste and eliminate or minimise adverse environmental effects and risks that may be associated with our operations;
  • Comply with or exceed all applicable environmental laws, statutory obligations and relevant voluntary codes of practice;
  • Monitor and set measurable targets to seek continual improvements to our environmental performance; and
  • Periodically review and maintain our environmental policy and regularly monitor the Company’s environmental compliance.
