Coal seam gas (“CSG”) is a key component of eastern Australia’s energy supply. CSG 2P reserves currently total around 4.7 Tcf, approximately half the level of conventional gas 2P reserves of ~10 Tcf in eastern Australia, and are growing rapidly. In situ (i.e. “original-gas-in-place”) resources of CSG in Queensland and New South Wales (“NSW”) are estimated to be more than 250 Tcf, which is greater than the total known conventional gas resources in Australia.

Notes: Reserves announced up to 1 January 2007 (Bohena Area updated for reserves as at 31 December 2007, announced 24 January 2007). In addition to the sites shown above there are 18 smaller CSG discoveries in eastern Australia with total estimated 2P reserves of 875 Bcf.
